Our Story
Six Years, Five Months and counting...
If you’ve ever wondered how Ben and Kaylee met, you can rest assured the answer is logical and on brand for the couple. It was January 2018 - Ben had just returned from his semester abroad and Kaylee was in the throes of her freshman year at Stonehill. No, it wasn’t a Courts party or in the Roche Dining Commons. It was at Mock Trial.
While their relationship didn’t start until March of 2019, Ben is confident Kaylee fell for him during Mock Trial Regionals. Why, you may ask, dear reader – let us tell you. Ben was wearing his Vineyard Vines lobster sweater and a blazer – what a combo! – and was playing an eccentric witness. From that moment on, the case was closed and Kaylee was sold. Though all good stories have two sides to it, and Kaylee remembers Ben falling in love with her early, which is supported by the facts. He told her he loved her well before they started dating.
But Mock Trial Regionals came to an end and Ben and Kaylee did their own thing for the next year, occasionally seeing each other with mutual friends or across campus. But in early 2019, things changed. Was it a reappearance of Ben’s lobster sweater? Was it watching Kaylee dunk a cookie in a glass of wine? Who knows.
On March 19, 2019, Ben decided it was time to ask Kaylee out and started to put together a plan. He bought a letter board, purchased some wine, two glasses that now look like the ones used in Love is Blind, and daffodils. On March 22, Kaylee was over in Ben’s suite, playing Solitaire and completely oblivious to Ben setting all this up in front of her. On the letterboard was the phrase “filled with joy.”
Two weeks later, Ben told Kaylee he was going to marry her someday.
Fast forward four years, Kaylee and Ben got engaged on May 27, 2023, at the Pemigewasset Scenic Overlook along the Kancamagus Highway. The couple had been through a lot – two and half years of undergrad, multiple election cycles in different states, two long-distance phases, including Kaylee’s semester in Dublin, a global pandemic, adopting a cat named Fredrick Walter Hincher-Dolan, moving to Portsmouth, she started law school, then he started grad school, he’s changed jobs and she got promoted. They agreed, life doesn't get better than what they had been busy building.
Four days before the wedding, on September 22, Kaylee and Ben will celebrate six and a half years together. It has been time filled with board games, days spent traveling, enjoying the sun, trying new recipes and dreaming of what tomorrow will bring.
As they get ready to say “I do,” they are, now more than ever, filled with joy.
Forever starts today.
"I ask you to pass through life at my side—to be my second self, and best earthly companion." - Charlotte Brontë
